Tim 'Herb' Alexander
North Carolina is an epicenter for arts and artists, a place for creative minds to push the boundaries of innovation. Most artists conform to the limits of their given genre, but others like to think outside the box and color outside the lines. An example of the latter is Tim Alexander. Also known as 'Herb,' Alexander was born in Cherry Point, North Carolina in 1965. Although the bulk of his work has been as a drummer, most notably for the band Primus, Alexander is also a talented guitarist, singer and songwriter. 'Herb' has dabbled in different musical genres, such as alternative metal, alternative rock, and experimental rock. It has been said that Alexander got his nickname due to his use of herbal nutritional supplements, but this is mostly a rumor, and you won't find any pharmacy reviews here.Even though Alexander wasn't Primus' original drummer, he did play in their first record, 'Suck On This.' He also played drums in the band's albums 'Frizzle Fry,' 'Sailing the Seas of Cheese,' 'Miscellaneous Debris,' Pork Soda,' and 'Tales from the Punchbowl.' Tim Alexander left Primus in 1996 before returning for the EP 'Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People' and to tour, after which he permanently quit the band in 2010. He had a side project called Laundry, with which he recorded two albums, 'Blacktongue' and 'Motivator.'
Alexander has collaborated with many musicians throughout his career, including Alex Skolnick of Testament fame, in the band Attention Deficit; and with Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle. Lately Alexander has become a touring member of Keenan's Puscifer, which records include 'V is for Vagina,' and 'V is for Viagra. The Remixes.' You can listen to a sample of the latter album V is for Viagra online. Outside the realm of rock, Alexander has also performed with the Blue Man Group.
