The North Carolina Music
The state of North Carolina is very known for the long history it has on music. The North Carolina music is part of a tradition which involves old time music. In the early 20th century the folk song collector known as Bascom Lamar Lunsford had made various recordings. Bascom Lamar Lunsford also known as the “Minstrel of the Appalachians” was a performer of traditional country and folk music. He was born on March 2 of 1882 and died on September 4th of 1973. This state is known for being the hotbed for rural traditional blues also known as the Piedmont blues.During the late 1920s this state was influenced by country musicians such as the North Carolina Ramblers. It was also influenced by bluegrass musicians such as: Doc Watson, Del McCoury and Earl Scruggs. North Carolina is considered the cradle of Gospel music. This state is home to several Gospel musicians and groups such as: Shirley Caesar, The Kingsmen, etc.
The Chapel Hill Carolina music scene began to take off in the 1960s with one of the first local legends by the name of The Corsayers. Since its beginnings the music of this state has also being involved in the Hip Hop, Rock, Metal, Punk Rock music scene.
One of the most prestigious and very known music schools in North Carolina is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Unc Ch). The Unc Ch is a public research university that was established on December 11 of 1789. The musical theatre of North Carolina mission is to strength the music and culture of the region. It was established in 1983 with the focus to maintain the unique art form of the American musical theater. This musical theatre has provided great opportunities for the North Carolina music scene.
