The 2001 Carolina Jazz Festival
The Carolina Jazz Festival is one of the most famous and popular jazz festivals in the United States. The 2001 Carolina Jazz Festival will take place in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This year event will honor Louis Armstrong also known as the man who taught the world how to swing. This festival is one of the various events which recognized the birth of Louis Armstrong, which was on August 4th of 1901.The 2001 Carolina Jazz Festival will focus on performance, education and appreciation. The event will add an exhibition of art and classic recordings. On February 24th there will be a rollicking jazz jam and dance at the Arts Center of Carrboro. This year festival will be expanded because of the attraction of the celebration of Louis Armstrong Centennial. According to the director of the festival the sound of the trumpet and voice of Louis Armstrong had totally influenced dance, film, music, art, literature, etc.
All jazz festivals have always its artists and speakers. This year festival artists are the following: The Steve Wilson Sextet form by Steve Wilson, Ray Vega, Steve Davis, Bruce Barth, Ed Howard, Adam Cruz and Sonny Rollins who is a tenor saxophonist. The speakers for the event are: Michael Cogswell, Dr. Michael White, Robert O'meally, Dr. Krin Gabbard, Dr. John Joyce, Dr. Kathy Ogren and Dr. Charles Kinser.
The 2001 Carolina Jazz Festival events will be performed from January 31st through March 3rd. The tickets for the festival will be on sale at the Frank Porter Graham Student Union Box Office.
